UN World Water Day At Enviro H2O

World Water Day, Enviro H2O

World Water Day has always been about focusing attention on water. With 80% of all the world’s wastewater flowing back into the rivers and oceans without being treated, this is a major water goal for us at Enviro H2O. On World Water Day, 22 March 2018, Enviro H2O will do our part by focusing on our water-related goals that include providing clean water to communities and treating water for our industrial projects.

The 3-Step Water Goals

The UN World Water Day website shares 3 aspects of water that one needs to be addressed while considering water goals. They are:

  • Water demand
  • Water availability
  • Water quality

Water demand is a critical area to address. There are an estimated 2.1 billion people who lack access to safely managed drinking water. Agriculture demands 70% of global water withdrawals, mostly for irrigation. Industry takes 20% of water and the remaining 10% goes to domestic use. With population growth estimated to increase by 2 billion by 2050, the global water demand would be 30% higher than it is today.

While we look at the water demand, water availability around the world also shows extreme pressure on the global infrastructure. Today, around 1.9 billion people live in severely water-scarce areas. By 2050, this number is estimated to rise by around 3 billion people.

Water quality is the third goal. An estimated 1.8 billion people use an unimproved source of drinking water with no protection against contamination from human faeces. Part of Enviro H2O’s objective is to treat contaminated wastewater generated by industry and society so that untreated water cannot enter back into our environment or into our rivers and streams. This would prevent contaminated water to enter our waterways and water sources.

Sustainable Development Goal 6

The UN World Water Day aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 that ensures access to water and sanitation for all. Due to bad economics and poor infrastructure, every year, millions of people, especially children, are affected and die from diseases associated with inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene. Goal 6 commits access to safe water by 2030 and targets protecting the natural environment and reducing pollution.

In a recent event attended by Enviro H2O called Wash Futures 2018, the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 was reinforced. The objective was to work with community organizations, researchers, solution providers and policymakers to meet the goal and move towards collaborative solutions. Enviro H2O has developed modular water treatment and wastewater treatment plants that work with solar power, work as standalone units and can be installed easily in any part of the world.

To celebrate UN World Water Day with us, contact us with your message and your upcoming project. We would be happy to work with you to explore water treatment projects that save, protect, treat water and provide clean water for industries and communities.
